What do celebrities do when their bedroom affairs are a part of every coffee table conversation? Need for privacy control. They need people to manage what goes out and what stays in the closet.
You can do that - by being a Celebrity Manager.
The right course
There's no recognised celebrity management course in India. You'll have to do a course in either event management or public relations after your HSC.
"Both these fields teach you about celebrity management," says Jimmy Doshi, CEO of a celebrity management firm. Most universities in India offer a mass communication degree.
"For a degree in Event Management, you can apply to the National Academy of Event Management and Development which has branches all over the country," says Smrudhi Yelkar, a celebrity manager.
Show me the money
Since you'll be working in close quarters with big celebs, you can expect good money. According to Yelkar, you can start with Rs 12,000 per month.
Post induction, you could get up to Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000. This is in addition to perks. The perks include travelling with stars to shows and outdoor events.
Glamour is the future
It's a glamorous field. The money is good and so is the growth. Since you'll be travelling with the celebrity, you'll have more exposure, more interaction.
The disadvantages are you'll be working erratic hours and will have to do follow-ups for events which can be stressful.
"Since you'll be involved with the who's who of the celebrity world, there are a lot of tantrums. You have to make sure you know how to prevent the gossip from getting into the papers," says Doshi.
As a celebrity manager, you'll also be required to be patient. You have to be a keen observer, be able to communicate well, look out for possible tie-ups with different brands that could boost the career of the celeb you are working with
